Burger bowls
Caramelized onions:
1 large yellow onion; diced
1 tbsp of unsalted butter
Pinch of kosher salt
Burger sauce ingredients:
1/3 cup mayo
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp relish
1 tsp yellow mustard
~ half of the caramelized onions
Burger bowl ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
Salt & pepper
1 tsp olive oil
5 - 6 slices of cheese of your choice
2 large tomatoes; diced
Lettuce of your choice; cut up small
Dill pickles; diced
1 bag of frozen fries; cooked per bag instructions
Start by preparing the caramelized onions. Melt the butter in a pan over low heat, then add the chopped onions along with a pinch of salt. Cook slowly, stirring often, until the onions become deeply golden and caramelized without burning. This step is all about patience—low and slow yields the best flavor. Once finished, remove from the heat and set aside. You’ll use half of the onions for the burger sauce and reserve the rest for topping the bowls.
To cook the beef, heat a teaspoon of olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the ground beef, seasoning it with salt and pepper, and cook until fully browned. Let it cook a bit longer to develop a rich, caramelized color. Once the beef is done, place the cheese slices directly on top, cover the pan, and reduce the heat to allow the cheese to melt completely.
While the beef cooks, prepare the remaining ingredients. Cook the fries according to the package instructions, and chop any fresh toppings like lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles. For the burger sauce, combine all sauce ingredients in a small bowl and mix until smooth. Refrigerate until ready to use.
When everything is ready, assemble the bowls. This recipe makes about four servings. Begin with a base of fries and lettuce, then add the cheesy beef, followed by tomatoes and pickles. Drizzle generously with burger sauce, and finish with the reserved caramelized onions on top. Serve immediately and enjoy.
